In continuation with measures to manage fuel supply across the country amid the US-Israel-Iran conflict in West Asia, the government on Tuesday announced to double the daily quantity of 5 kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders for migrant labourers beyond the earlier 20 percent limit.
“The centre vide letter dated April 4, 2026, has conveyed that the daily quantity of 5 kg FTL cylinders in each state available for disbursal to migrant labourers is being doubled based on the average daily supply (Number of cylinders) to migrant labourers during March 2-3, 2026 beyond the limit of 20 percent mentioned in letter dated March 21, 2026. These 5 kg FTL cylinders will be at the disposal of the state government for supplying only to migrant labourers in their state with assistance of Oil Marketing Companies (OMC),” the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) said in a statement.
According to MoPNG, about 7.8 lakh 5-kg FTL cylinders have been sold since March 23. PSU OMCs have organised around 1,300 awareness camps for 5 kg FTL cylinders during the last four days, wherein more than 10,000 5 kg FTL cylinders were also sold.
The ministry also informed that enforcement actions continue across the country to curb hoarding and black marketing of LPG. Over 4,300 raids were conducted and more than 1,200 cylinders were seized across the country on Monday. “PSU OMCs have strengthened surprise inspections and issued over 1,700 show-cause notices, imposed penalties on 168 LPG distributorships and suspended 45 distributorships,” it added.
Sharing the domestic LPG supply status, the centre said that despite the supply continuing to be affected by the prevailing geopolitical situation, no dry-outs have been reported at LPG distributorships. Notably, online LPG bookings have increased to about 96 percent across the industry. Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) based deliveries have increased to around 90 percent to prevent diversion. Domestic LPG cylinder deliveries remain normal.
