Biometric Aadhaar authentication will be mandatory for subsidised domestic LPG refills from October 1, 2026, the government stated. To receive the LPG subsidy and buy refills at the regulated price, domestic consumers must complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication.
Biometric Aadhaar Authentication will support prevention of diversion of subsidised domestic cylinders for commercial and industrial use by linking each connection to the Aadhaar-authenticated consumer. Biometric Aadhaar Authentication confirms that subsidised LPG reaches only genuine and deserving households.
Moreover, it will eliminate ineligible and duplicate connections and ensure targeted and transparent subsidy delivery. The Petroleum and Natural Gas ministry has stated that the authentication does not target to deny LPG to any genuine household, and every eligible consumer has multiple easy ways to complete it.
As per the statement by the ministry, 27.43 crore consumers have already completed authentication and do not need to do anything further. The authentication process can be done at the distributor’s showroom, at the time of delivery or on Oil Marketing Company (OMC) mobile apps. MoPNG has directed consumers to complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication before 1 October 2026.
