Over 4,000 LPG distributors across the country protested at Delhi’s CBD Ground on Monday, warning a nationwide strike if the centre does not address their long pending demands within a month.
The protest was organised by the LPG Distributors Association (India). Participants across multiple states and union territories contributed to the protest demanding restoration of LPG connections in affected areas, an end to alleged interference by oil marketing companies in their operations and a revision of distributor commissions.
The association noted that while operational expenses have steadily increased, distributors have spent years pushing for a commission revision that has been pending since 2018.
“Since 2018, the price of LPG has increased from around Rs 450 to Rs 1,000, while commercial LPG prices have risen from Rs 1,100 to Rs 3,033. However, there has been no corresponding increase in our commission,” ET reported B S Sharma, national president of the LPG Distributors Association (India) saying as.
Furthermore, the distributors are also against the government’s March 24, 2026, order concerning the discontinuation of LPG supplies in areas where piped natural gas (PNG) infrastructure is available. The association argued that the policy would harm their businesses and limit consumer options, especially where private companies are expanding PNG networks.
Moreover the association raised concerns over electronic know your customer (e-KYC) requirement claiming that approximately 3.16 crore LPG connections had been suspended due to incomplete verification.
