Mizoram is likely to get Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections for domestic uses by early 2028. A 119.5 km pipeline is currently being constructed by Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL) to link Panisagar in northern Tripura with Aizawl.

Mizoram’s Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister B. Lalchhanzova, along with senior officials inspected the ongoing work on the Panisagar-Aizawl pipeline in Tuidam in Mamit district. The minister stated that disruptions in the global supply chain due to geopolitical tensions has led to periodic shortages of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in Mizoram, causing challenges for domestic cooking.

To overcome these challenges and guarantee a reliable supply of cooking fuel, the Northeast Gas Grid Project is investing roughly Rs 9,265 crore to lay 1,656 km of pipelines across the region, he noted.

As per the minister, the project will be connecting Mizoram with the Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited (TNGCL) at an estimated cost of Rs 491 crore. At start, the project will cover Mamit and Aizawl districts and will potentially reach Mamit town by March-April 2027 and Sihhmui in Aizawl district by March-April 2028.

After the completion of the main pipeline by IGGL, TNGGL will start supplying PNG connections to households and other consumers in the two districts, providing the state with cleaner and more convenient cooking fuel, Lalchhanzova said.
