America is very close to concluding its trade negotiations with India, stated US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, describing why energy supply considerations and security issues factor into decisions regarding sanctions on Russian oil, as per ANI.
These statements were made prior to his visit with India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in Mumbai on October 20, as per Reuters.
Discussing the United States’ waiver of sanctions on Russian oil and natural gas, Rubio said America must consider its implications for global energy supplies and pricing, Reuters noted.
“We've had to waive sanctions over the past few months because of the impact on global supplies and prices,” he said.
Rubio noted that there were various issues that the US considered before making decisions related to national security waiver cases, which included the challenges certain countries face when trying to source their energy requirements from other means.
Earlier statements made by Goyal indicated that global changes would need to be taken into account before finalising this trade agreement. On October 14, Goyal referred to Indian-American ties as "very good," saying that he saw no trouble in bilateral ties despite the delays.
