A US-flagged LPG carrier and a Russian crude oil tanker have docked at New Mangalore Port over the weekend, as India adjusts import flows amid disruptions linked to the Strait of Hormuz.
The LPG carrier Pyxis Pioneer arrived on Sunday carrying 16,714 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for Aegis Logistics, after departing from the Port of Nederland in the United States on February 14.
A day earlier, the Russian crude oil tanker Aqua Titan reached the port with a cargo of around 7.7 lakh barrels, which was originally bound for China but was rerouted to India.
The crude is being discharged through an offshore pipeline system connected to a jetty located about 12 nautical miles from the coast, supplying Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL).
The arrivals come amid disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy transit route, prompting adjustments in sourcing patterns.
India imports a significant share of its crude oil and LPG requirements from Gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iraq and the UAE. The current situation has seen increased sourcing from suppliers such as the United States and Russia.
