Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday spoke with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman and raised concerns over attacks on energy infrastructure in West Asia, while stressing the need to keep shipping routes open and secure, the government said. Modi reiterated India’s condemnation of attacks on regional energy assets and underlined the importance of freedom of navigation amid the ongoing conflict.
The emphasis on secure maritime routes assumes significance as key sea lanes in the region are critical for global crude oil and LNG movement. The conversation reflects India’s engagement with Saudi Arabia, a key energy partner, on maintaining stability in energy supply chains. Modi also thanked the Saudi leadership for its continued support to the Indian community in the Kingdom, according to the government.
