Hardeep Singh Puri, the union minister for petroleum and natural gas, met Sergio Gor, the US Ambassador to India, on Wednesday, as both discussed energy cooperation between the two countries.

“Very happy to receive @USAmbIndia H.E. Amb Sergio Gor in my office today. We held productive discussions on the bilateral energy cooperation between our countries and discussed ways to further strengthen our comprehensive energy relationship, Puri wrote on X. The discussion on bilateral energy cooperation comes amid the US-Israel-Iran-triggered West Asia crisis, which impacted one-fifth of the world’s oil and gas passage, which takes place via the Strait of Hormuz.

Both sides discussed the ways to boost the energy partnership and secure greater access to the US energy commodities for Indian companies.

The meeting is seen to hold great importance in the light of India’s bid to diversify its energy sourcing, including crude oil, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), and both countries have already been trying to enhance their energy partnership. Before the West Asia crisis, India used to import 90 percent of its LPG requirement from the region. As the war broke out in West Asia, the country’s LPG import from the region reduced drastically, and the US became India’s key LPG supplier.
