The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) stated, at least $220 billion would be required for investment in India's renewable energy industries during 2027 to 2030.
According to Joint Secretary JVN Subramanyam, India requires $70 billion in investments for Solar Power, $20 billion for BESS technology, $25-30 billion in Wind Power, $15-20 billion in Manufacturing, and $20-25 billion in Green Hydrogen.
Further investments needed are estimated to be $40-45 billion in Transmission Infrastructure, $12-15 billion in Hydropower, and $5 billion in Bioenergy.
Santosh Kumar Sarangi, MNRE Secretary, said that the sector had managed to attract investments worth $64 billion since the Renewable Energy Investors Meet and Expo (RE-INVEST), held in Gujarat last year, in 2024. Foreign Direct Investment accounted for $6.2 billion.
The Government is working out ways in which we can come up with a resource mobilisation plan for the next four-five years, said Sarangi.
The MNRE secretary also added that the government was drafting a policy for awarding exploration rights in geothermal power projects using similar norms applied to petroleum exploration. Geothermal project guidelines were likely to be released in the next few weeks or one-two months.
