India's renewable energy industry continues to attract more investments from financial institutions worldwide who have started exploring their options for expanding their footprint in the space of clean energy infrastructure.
This trend has been exemplified by KKR's latest investment deal worth over $600 million in Petronas' renewable energy platform based out of India.
It is anticipated these funds will bolster the financial standing of the renewable energy platform, thereby enabling the company to diversify into various other projects pertaining to renewable energy and green hydrogen.
This deal will allow the renewable energy firm to finance its clean energy projects along with taking care of its debt requirements. The transaction was carefully structured in such a manner as to give the investor the right to invest in shares in the renewables platform at a later date. Nonetheless, any move towards acquiring an ownership stake in the business will be conditional on obtaining regulatory clearance from India's competition authorities.
Solar energy, wind energy, and green hydrogen production are some of the areas that will become increasingly vital for India, which aims to enhance its energy security through a diversified energy portfolio. Infrastructure investments will benefit significantly from such capacities.
