Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) has said that it has appointed Kumar Shanker as Managing Director. Shanker has assumed the new role with effect from June 5. Before joining the company, he was Managing Director of Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd.
Shanker has over 31 years of experience in the natural gas sector, spanning gas processing plant commissioning and operations, petrochemical project management, corporate strategy, marketing, regulatory affairs, and city gas distribution. Besides, he played an instrumental role in shaping policy and regulatory developments in India’s natural gas industry. Shanker is chemical engineering graduate from BITS Pilani.
Shanker’s appointment has come at a time when companies engaged in gas distribution are expanding their network and enhancing existing network aligned with India’s broader aim to emerge as a gas-based economy. Presently, natural gas comprise 6 percent of India’s primary energy mix, however, the government is eyeing to increase the share to 15 percent by 2030.
