The government has conducted more than 2,100 raids and seized over 450 cylinders on Tuesday, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) said.
The MoPNG added that PSU Oil Marketing Companies (OMC) have strengthened and continued surprise inspections that led to imposing penalties on 237 LPG distributorships and suspension of 55 LPG distributorships on Tuesday.
The ministry informed that 1,34,226 MT, which is equivalent to more than 70.64 lakh of 19 kg LPG cylinders of commercial LPG, has been sold since March 14. This includes more than 8,000 MT of auto LPG. Average auto LPG sale by PSU OMCs till April is around 282 MT a day against the average of 177 MT/day during February.
Although LPG supply continues to be affected by the prevailing geopolitical situation, no dry-outs have been reported at LPG distributorships, adding that online LPG bookings have increased to about 99 percent across the industry. Most of the LPG distributorships were operating on Sunday to ensure delivery of domestic LPG cylinders to households, it further added.
At the same time, a shift towards Piped Natural Gas (PNG) has gained steam. According to the ministry, about 4.5 lakh PNG connections have been gasified and about 5 lakh additional customers have registered for new connections since March 2026. Besides, more than 34,200 PNG consumers have surrendered their LPG connections via MYPNGD.in website.
