Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) expanded its operational Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) capacity to 3.37 GWh at Khavda, Gujarat, making it the world's largest single-location battery storage deployment outside China and among the fastest executed globally.
AGEL’s total operational BESS expansion capacity includes 1.37 GWh that was added in March this year at Khavda, the location of its new 30 GW renewable energy park. The 9.9 GW of the 30 GW park has been operationalised.
The company’s 3.37 GWh BESS has the capacity of storing sufficient clean energy to provide electricity to around 10 lakh homes for an entire day, Which will support peak electricity demand of cities.
AGEL said that the commissioning is a major milestone in boosting grid reliability, peak-hour supply and enabling renewable energy to deliver dependable, 24x7 power at scale. He added that it plans to add over 10 GWh of battery storage capacity in FY27, which will be scaled to 50 GWh over the next five years.
Sagar Adani, Executive Director, AGEL, said, “Large-scale energy storage will play a defining role in the next phase of India's clean energy transition. As renewable energy capacity scales rapidly, storage infrastructure becomes critical for delivering reliable, round-the-clock clean power. Our investments in battery storage reflect a long-term commitment to building future-ready clean energy infrastructure at global scale.”
The development comes at a time when India is accelerating the adoption of renewable energy and storage infrastructure in a bid to strengthen grid stability, reduce dependence on fossil fuel and support 24x7 clean power.
