Rajesh Kumar Chandel has been appointed as the Director (Projects) of SJVN Ltd with effect from June 11, 2026, the company has said. Presently, he is Officer on Special Duty to the company’s CMD.
Prior to the appointment, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company Pvt Ltd and SJVN Lower Arun Power Development Company Pvt Ltd, the subsidiaries in Nepal.
Chandel brings with him over 30 years of experience in the power sector with emphasis on hydroelectric projects. He holds expertise across project planning, execution, monitoring and coordination of projects in India, Nepal and Bhutan.
During his career at SJVN, Chandel has served multiple positions in the corporate monitoring and coordination department, corporate facility management department and the office of director (Civil).
He has also worked as the Managing Director and Member Secretary of Punatsangchhu Hydro Electric Power Authority-II in Bhutan, where he played a key role in the commissioning of the 1,020 MW Punatsangchhu Hydro Electric Project. Later in 2020, he played a lead role in the 66 MW Dhaulasidh Hydro Electric Project.
Chandel is a Fellow of The Institution of Engineers (India) and a Chartered Engineer with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and Master’s degree in Business Administration.
