Serentica Renewables has started Phase I of its 1 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Bikaner, Rajasthan. This deployment marks the company’s entrance into large-scale energy storage for the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector.

The first phase consists 200 MWh BESS to store daytime clean energy and deliver it during peak nighttime hours. The project’s modular architecture will deliver operational versatility, scalability, and fast reaction times boosting grid stability and facilitating greater renewable energy integration, according to a statement by the company.

The company also stated that the project will enable one of the world’s first time-block Round-the-Clock (RTC) renewable power arrangements for industrial consumers.

Moreover, the project reflects how battery energy storage turns intermittent renewable generation into dependable, 24x7 power, allowing industries to decarbonize without risking operational reliability.

Commenting on the deployment, Akshay Hiranandani, Chief Executive Officer of Serentica Renewables said that by ensuring continuous flow of renewable power, battery energy storage systems will play a vital role in India’s next phase of clean energy transition. He further stated that the first phase of the bikaner project boosts the company’s ability to deliver reliable, round-the-clock renewable energy through the integration of advanced storage technologies with renewable generation.

Furthermore, the company informed that it plans to construct a 7 GWh battery storage pipeline over the next two years, targeting to establish one of India’s largest battery energy storage portfolios for the commercial and industrial segment. This development will expand the availability of reliable and dispatchable clean energy solutions.
