Jupiter Wagons Ltd, along with partner Madhav Infra Projects Ltd won a $10.33 million international bid for a BESS project of 41MW /102.5MWh capacity with Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited.

The successful bid comes in response to an international tender conducted by state-run electricity firm Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL), the announcement stated, adding that the company will execute the project under its energy arm, JEM Energy.

The agreement follows a Letter of Award (LoA) received in August from West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited for the development of a standalone battery system of 50 MW/200 MWh capacity in West Bengal. The two deals were secured in line with the recent Indian Government's decision to approve the Green Energy Corridor Phase-III. It seeks to develop India's Intra-State Transmission System in order to evacuate 135 GW of renewable energy and install 50 GWh of Battery Energy Storage Systems.

Jupiter Wagons makes batteries for electric vehicles and containerized battery energy storage systems at utility scale. Jupiter wants to secure orders worth about Rs. 10 billion from its BESS business segment by fiscal year 2027."Winning the Uttarakhand project and receiving the formal award for Jeerat are important steps in building JEM Energy into a scalable energy storage business” said Vivek Lohia, MD of Jupiter Wagons.
