The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has launched the India-UK Offshore Wind Taskforce under Vision 2035 and the Fourth Energy Dialogue, creating a formal bilateral mechanism to accelerate India’s offshore wind ecosystem. While no new offshore wind policy or regulation has been notified, the taskforce is designed to shape critical elements of policy architecture, including seabed leasing frameworks, revenue-certainty mechanisms, infrastructure planning, supply chain localisation and blended finance structures.

The initiative reinforces implementation of the existing ₹7,453 crore Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme intended to support early offshore wind projects off the coasts of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. By institutionalising coordination between governments, industry and financial stakeholders, the platform aims to address execution challenges in one of the most complex segments of the clean energy transition.

The move signals a strategic elevation of offshore wind within India’s broader energy transition framework, linking grid stability, industrial competitiveness and green hydrogen ambitions.
