India will expand wind energy capacity by 7.5-8 GW in the current fiscal year, reports ET Energy World quoting Rajesh Kulhari, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy as saying.
While addressing the EU-India Wind Energy Business Summit 2026 at WindEnergy Hamburg on Tuesday, Kulhari stated that India has added more than 6 GW of wind energy capacity in 2025-26. He added that the sector was gaining momentum with limited fiscal support from the government. Developing wind projects entails investment of nearly ₹7 crore per MW, which means annual additions of 7 GW would require investments of around ₹50 crore annually.
Kulhari also stated, “Last year also we achieved approximately ₹12,000 crore of exports,” he also highlighted that Indian companies are majorly exporting wind components and the domestic ecosystem has the capacity to boost further growth in exports.
He also laid emphasis on the opportunities for better cooperation between Indian and European wind energy companies, particularly in offshore wind.
According to Kulhari,India can benefit from Europe's expertise and advanced technology in offshore wind, while Indian firms bring strengths in rapid deployment, project scalability, and a skilled workforce.
