The Indian crude oil import cost rose 46.3 percent to $90.6 billion in April-September due to increased international oil prices despite similar volumes as last year, figures released by the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) revealed.
Brent crude was higher at about $110 per barrel on October 21 amid worries regarding Red Sea navigation safety and possible attacks on Saudi Arabian oil installations by Houthis backed by Tehran.
Indian crude imports stood at 122.7 million tonnes in April-September unchanged from 121.8 million tonnes seen last year.
In September alone, the Indian crude oil import cost jumped 46.6 percent to $15.4 billion while volumes were higher by 6.8 percent to 21.7 million tonnes.
Escalation in tensions between America and Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz and a fresh wave of strikes against Saudi Arabia's oil installations by the Houthi rebels have sent crude prices soaring again after the previous drop from the peak of conflicts in West Asia.
