As part of measures to manage downstream availability amid disruptions linked to the West Asia situation, the government has permitted refining companies, including petrochemical complexes, to make available certain minimum quantities of C3 and C4 streams of hydrocarbons for critical sectors.

As per the government order, these sectors include the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Department of Food & Public Distribution, and Department of Chemicals & Petro Chemicals, among others based on specific quantity and refinery source as determined by the Centre for High Technology (CHT).

Officials said the decision reflects a move towards prioritised allocation of hydrocarbon derivatives, with focus on sectors where substitutes are limited.
