ReNew has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Anakapalli district administration to implement Project Surya, an initiative aimed at increasing women's participation in the clean energy workforce.
In the pilot phase of this three-year collaboration, 300 locals will be trained in solar energy, operations & management, and renewable energy technology. ReNew will develop the syllabus, provide trainers, and assess candidates, while the district administration will take care of mobilising the candidates and arrange the training facilities.
The initiative takes place concurrently with the expansion of ReNew’s presence in Andhra Pradesh, where it has begun work on a ₹4,200 crore, 6.5 GW solar ingot and wafer manufacturing plant at Anakapalli. The project is part of a wider ₹82,000 crore investment program in the state that entails a 2.8 GW hybrid renewables plant in Anantapur and would generate 3,600 jobs. ReNew has been operating in the state since 2015, managing 717 MW of wind and 60 MW of solar capacity, apart from its CSR initiatives in the communities.
Project Surya, launched originally in Gujarat in 2022 in collaboration with UNEP and SEWA, has already provided training to 728 women from marginalized sections, including ex-salt pan and coal miners.
