In a meeting with bipatisan US Congressional delegation, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri expressed concerns over the implications of the recently enacted Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act (SRIA) on bilateral ties and the international energy market, the Economic Times reported quoting, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Tuesday.
The meeting was held on Sunday in Delhi, and the US delegation was headed by Brian Mast, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed response to a query at his bi-weekly media briefing.
"Various issues of bilateral nature were discussed at the meeting. Also, the foreign secretary conveyed our concerns about the SRIA legislation, as to the kind of implications it would have for bilateral relationships, as well as for the international energy market," Jaiswal said.
Recently, US president Donald Trump enacted the 'Lindsey O Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026', enabling the US government to impose tariffs over 100 percent on major buyers of Russian oil and gas, including China and India.
